Explore Hyde Park's Historic One-Room Schoolhouse Sunday

HYDE PARK, N.Y. -- The Town of Hyde Park Historical Society is hosting an open house Sunday for the Little Red Schoolhouse.

All are invited to attend to see how children in the 1800s attended classes in a one-room schoolhouse. After the presentation, there will be light refreshments.

There is no fee, but donations are appreciated for the upkeep of this historical structure. For more information or reservations, call Carl and Marilyn Grieco at 845-229-9029. 

The open house is from 2-4 p.m. The Little Red Schoolhouse is on the grounds of North Park Elementary School, 1593 Route 9G, Hyde Park.

The historical society is having a meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27 in the Hyde Park United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, Route 9 at Church Street. Those interested in local history are invited to attend, as well as anyone interested in becoming a new member.

Scott Rector, chief of interpretation at the Roosevelt-Vanderbilt National Historic Sites for the past 20 years, will speak about the 100th Anniversary of the National Park Service and introduce the new superintendent, Lawrence Turk.

There will be refreshments and a business meeting following Rector's presentation.
